A complete rip off. Do not buy. Tastes like a spice you might get from a dollar store. There is no use for this product.

We bought this for some Basque guests we had visiting. Strangely enough, they were really not familiar with it; it is from the French Basque areas (our visitors were from the basque areas of Spain). However, Gerald Hirigoyen refers to it multiple times in his "Pintxos" (Basque tapas) cookbook [a great resource with lots of wonderful recipes]. It's a fun spice to use for traditional Basque dishes. It is pretty close to paprika in flavor and character. It is NOT spicy hot or smoky like some other dried pimento pepper products from the region. Goes well with eggs, meats, and fish. I feel that the jar we received was either not very fresh or else the spice itself is just not that intense in flavor; don't really have any broader experience to compare it with. It does, however, have the complex flavor that Hirigoyen attributes to it and it would be hard to come up with a replacement seasoning if you have a recipe that calls for it.
