The result is a thick paste used for sauces and spreads, pickling vegetables or meats, and mixing with dashi soup stock to serve as miso soup. High in protein and rich in vitamins and minerals, miso is still very widely used in Japan, both in traditional and modern cooking, and has been gaining world-wide interest. Miso is typically salty, but its flavor and aroma depend on various factors in the ingredients and fermentation process. Red miso has a slightly stronger flavor than white miso. | | | Features: | |

Delicious!Mar 11, 2013
By J Z This miso paste is absolutely delicious! I use about one tablespoon (or less) per serving/bowl. It is a bit salty, so there's no need to add additional salt to it at all. Buy some dashi stock to get a really authentic flavor. I now have a year's supply of miso paste and can make my own soup anytime! I'm really pleased with this product and highly recommend it!
Packaging was broken, too salty and odd flakesMay 15, 2013
By Simon Pros -good flavor -easy to cook with -this was my go-to hangover cure (3 tablespoons in 1.5 cups of hot water)
Cons -Packaging was cracked in several places, with paste oozing out -over salted -residual, tough flakes (I don't know too much about miso, so this could be normal)
Overall -Fine miso, not the best, poor packaging

Your missing ingredient...Mar 23, 2013
By D. Nielson First of all I rate this 3 stars because of price. You can purchase cheaper elsewhere...
That being said, I have not personally purchased this from Amazon as I can purchase much cheaper at an Asian market. If your Asian market is limited or a drive, then keep this purchase in mind from Amazon. This spice mixed properly with other ingredients can give your Asian inspired cuisine the missing 'something' that you're looking - careful though, a little can go a long way. Personally, I enjoy combining this paste into a glaze which I use over Salmon and certain pork dishes. I have also used in soups and in various condiments.
Wonderful stuff, don't pass it up...
